Bird Surveys

By participating in our conservation programmes, you provide a critical role in assisting with data collection. You will be given a data sheet on the day, as well as a laminated bird guide. With the assistance of your local guide, you will be gathering information on species seen and heard in the agro-forest region around you.

We work closely with Singapore University Aviation Lab, and this data will serve as a starting point for scientists who have yet to study the wildlife population on Simeulue. You will be contributing to a database of information, and with the data collected, we can gather critical insights that will help us gain support for and inform programs to protect and prevent these unique birds and their habitat from disappearing forever.

The scientific community is uncertain about the population size and density of current known species on Simeulue. We are already aware of the risk factors that will rapidly decrease these populations, such as poaching for the illegal wildlife trade, loss of habitat from deforestation and population destruction from invasive species. Therefore, we need to work quickly to figure out the current situation in our forests before it is too late.
